Pullbox Reviews: Camron Johnson Ups the Crazy in Bonecheck, Volume 2!

Similar in theme to Deadpool, but orders of magnitude more chaotic, Bonecheck tells the homey tale of an unnamed bounty hunter, latest in a long ancestral line, with a bit of a bar tab. Only here, instead of a sleazy dive bar which was formerly a school for wayward girls, we’ve got a Saloon, formerly a vaudeville-style theater with all the ghosts and drama, run by fallen angels looking to make their way back to heaven by hiring murderous mercenaries to take out the world’s evil. Pullbox Reviews: Vlad Dracul Explores the Monster Behind the Myth

Strukul presents an interesting take in this one: literature, both prose and graphic, is inundated with takes on Stoker’s Dracula; tales of Vlad Dracul, sans pointy teeth and presumably closer to reality? A bit less so. Instead of the vampire, we see the monster: blood-thirsty, selfish and impulsive—but passionate, fiercely independent and Wallachian-loyal even unto his death. And in terms of story, we get plots and sub-plots aplenty, and no shortage of character motivations left gestating for future harvest. (11/13)

Bookshelf Review: Colleen Doran Brings Neil Gaiman’s Troll Bridge to Glorious Life!

Just as Snow, Glass, Apples is far afield of Disney’s happily sanitized Snow White (or even the Grimm brothers’ original, for that matter), Troll Bridge is not your kindergartner’s Three Billy Goats Gruff. The tale, told in retrospect from the now-adult Jack, is beautiful prose: eloquent, evocative and yet somehow minimal at once. And, true to Gaiman form, fondly nostalgic of a youth lived in the wilds of fair(ish) Britain in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. (13/13)
