Detective Comics #843 (DC – Dini / Ngyen / Fridolfs)
A member of Gotham’s underground threatens the livelihood of the DCU’s resident magician, Zatanna! That is, until Batman decides to lend Zatanna a hand. Plus, an appearance by Scarface and the origin of the new Ventriloquist!
Given recent stories in Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash, I sometimes wonder if in recent months, the powers at DC says “It’s not Final Crisis-centric… don’t worry about it… just put whatever together, fans don’t really read that”. This month’s Detective Comics proves that hypothesis wrong.
Scarface is back, and now with a new and “softer” lap. Unfortunately for Batman, the new Ventriloquist is an old female freind of Bruce Wayne. This is the second female twist for Bruce in this issue. The first is when Zatanna hits on Bruce and basically asks him why they never got together and lets him know the option can still be a very real one. That might be a very fun and lively twist in the DCU.
The Paul Dini / Dustin Ngyen team here is incredible, this issue is a great place to jump on for anyone trying to get into the Dark Knight’s monthly adventures!
