Tales of The Sinestro Corps: Parallax (DC – Marz / Melo / Alquiza / Wright) – Even though the book is called Tales of the Sinestro Corp: Parallax, the book actually focuses exclusively on Kyle Rayner who is possessed by Parallax. The entire story takes place inside the prison of Kyle’s mind as he tries to find a way to kick Parallax out of his body. Parallax being the S.O.B that he is takes time off of killing Green Lanterns in mass to meet Kyle and torment him as only the living embodiment of fear can. The story also revolves around Kyle coming to terms with no longer being Oa’s poster boy Ion, but finally just being a Green Lantern again.
Ron Marz has written more Kyle Rayner than anyone else and can nail the character right on the head. Fans have seen Kyle grow from being a outclassed rookie to being a virtual god as Ion. I like the fact that throughout it all, Marz has kept Kyle relatively humble and relatable. Kyle is still that guy who just happened to be at the right place at the right time and changed everything because he is, at his core, a hero.
Adriana Melo’s pencils are awesome! People have distinct faces and emotions show through clear as day. Marlo Alquiza’s Inks and Jason Wright’s colors work very well for the issue, varying for the different styles where it needs to give the look of a painting or a sketch following the story. This is an outstanding trio that I hope gets to collaborate on future books.
Over all this book is a great add on to the Sinestro Corps story line and an overall great piece of storytelling. I recommend it for anyone who is following the current GL cross over. If you’re picking up this book but none of the other GL titles, well then your stupid and this book isn’t for you.
