We also get a true feel for how the Plutonian feels about humans – less than animals. The Plutonian makes an appearance at the UN, and trying to see where the debate will go. Awkward! 😉
Later, after the Plutonian starts a catastrophe in Singapore, surviving members of the Paradigm (think JLA) show up for a search and rescue. The Plutonian stops them dead in their tracks and won’t let them continue until they pick ten random innocents for him to execute… ten lives for ten million. Pretty wicked!
Mark Waid creates a wild and unique character out of an archetype we all love and know – the “Evil Superman, bent on domination” – but the flip is that even when the “evil Superman” has shown up before – there have always been the good guys to take him down. Waid has a setting that is fresh and intriguing. This is why Waid’s name is at the top of most reader’s lists.
In all of my gushing, I don’t want to miss out on sending praise out to Peter Karause and his art, which frames this story perfectly!
