Returning to Kickstarter on Monday, March 22nd is THE JUMP, a kick-you-in-the-teeth paranoid thriller set in the world of astral projection from the FOUR-time Ringo-nominated team that brought you Banjax.
After a series of crippling personal tragedies, Thomas Northrope retreats from his everyday life and finds comfort in an online community dedicated to the art of astral projection. When he demonstrates a unique aptitude for the practice, Thomas becomes the target of a mysterious corporate/political machine – known as AJAX – bent on using promising young practitioners to win a centuries-old war on the astral plane.
Creator Rylend Grant describes THE JUMP as “a smart, high-concept sci-fi thriller full of meaty twists and turns. It is Inception meets The Bourne Identity… if it were dripping with macabre and directed by David Fincher.” Now, tell us that doesn’t sound intriguing.
The film comparisons flow freely and easily from Grant, a screenwriter by trade, with a decade’s worth of experience penning smart, character-driven action movies for the likes of JJ Abrams, Ridley Scott, Justin Lin, Luc Besson, and John Woo. Collider recently announced that Grant’s first comic book – the political action thriller Aberrant (published by Action Lab: Danger Zone) – is being developed for television by 24 & Felicity Executive Producer Tony Krantz.
Aberrantwon a prestigious Mike Wieringo Comic Book Award (“Ringo Award”) in 2019 for BEST VILLAIN and was nominated for two others… BEST SINGLE ISSUE and Grant was nominated for BEST WRITER along-side first ballot hall of famers like Jeff Lemire, Scott Snyder, Brian K. Vaughan, and Brian Michael Bendis. Grant’s most recent book – a dark super hero noir titled Banjax – made over a dozen critics ten-best lists in 2019 and was nominated for FOUR Ringo Awards in 2020 including BEST SERIES (alongside Bitter Root and Something’s Killing the Children).
Issue 1 of the THE JUMP debuted on Kickstarter last summer and raised over $15,000. This Issue 2 campaign gives folks who missed out that first go ‘round the chance to catch up and promises plenty of unique goodies for returning backers… three amazing variant covers (colorful homages to pop culture classics like Back to the Future, Magnum P.I, and The Mandalorian), original art and commission opportunities from Ringo-Nominated Banjax artist Fabio Alves, the chance to actually appear as a character in the book or on a cover, and the chance to come onto the film and TV property as a producer. “We pulled out all the stops for this one,” said Grant. “We wanted to make this one of the most epic Kickstarter campaigns in recent memory and so we left nothing on the table.”
