Dynamite Entertainment announces the most unexpected and exciting crossover of the year…Red Sonja and Vampirella Meet Betty and Veronica!
Dynamite’s first ever crossover with Archie Comics could not be any bigger. The flagship Women of Dynamite come face to face with Riverdale’s leading ladies to solve a string of paranormal, unsolved murders. When Drakulon and Hyrkania drop off their famous vampire hunter and sword-wielding barbarian into the small, sleepy town something is surely afoot.
Amy Chu (Red Sonja, KISS: The End, Poison Ivy) returns to the fiery-haired She-Devil to write even more of a fish out of water tale than her fan favorite Worlds Away arc. Joining her on the art side is Maria Laura Sanapo (DC Comics Bombshells, Charmed) who just drew theVampirella Valentine’s Day Special. Together these two women will chronicle the incomparable charm of their four leading ladies.
Both Dynamite and Archie have had great crossovers with the biggest publishers in the industry! Archie Comics has a long history of fun crossovers with pop culture and comic book icons, blending Americana with horror, sci-fi, rock and roll, and more. From Batman, The Punisher, The Ramones, KISS, and even The Predator, Archie and the gang have had countless encounters with strange and deadly forces in the town of Riverdale. Even with so many famous faces having visited, nothing has prepared Betty & Veronica as they meet two of the most legendary women in comics.
Amy Chu remembers having a Josie and the Pussycats lunchbox as a kid and shared some other Archie memories, “Archie was one of the few comics my Mom would buy for us now and then. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up so my mom wasn’t about to blow it all on comics.” Such a big deal crossover can be daunting to even seasoned pros like Chu, “Whereas I’ve done quite a bit of Red Sonja to date, this is my first Archie book, and also Vampirella. Of course there’s the challenge of pulling it off, not every kind of story is suited for this kind of team up.” On what fans can expect from this series, “What would bring these four women together? A mysterious spree of supernatural killings in Riverdale High, of course!” Fans of these characters and newcomers alike will jump for joy when faced with the impossible decision of which covers to choose from. Why not collect them all?
Fay Dalton (James Bond: Casino Royale, Nancy Drew & the Hardy Boys) kicks things off with her painterly style perfectly accentuating the crimson mane of Sonja and the teenage pep of the Riverdale girls in the locker room. Also represented are Archie Horror legends Francesco Francavilla (Afterlife with Archie, Black Panther, Will Eisner’s The Spirit), Robert Hack (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Elvira Mistress of the Dark) and Laura Braga (Blossoms 666, Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica, DC Comics Bombshells). Paulina Ganucheau (Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt, Mother Panic) brings her always adorable style with a cover featuring fashionable reinterpretations for Red Sonja and Vampirella’s timeless costumes. Dynamite continues its tradition of fun cosplay covers with women portraying the four heroines for this series. Last but certainly not least, no series starring the Archie characters would be complete without a contribution from the legendary Dan Parent, who has written and drawn everyone’s favorite teens for over 30 years!
“We’ve wanted to play in the sandbox with the Dynamite gang for some time, and I’m really happy the stars aligned on this one,” said Archie Comics Co-President Alex Segura. “Amy Chu’s story is a fun, energized romp that brings together our iconic duo of Betty and Veronica with Vampi and Red Sonja. Four badass ladies join forces for a crossover you won’t forget. What more could you want?” “Like so many comic book fans, Archie was a constant favorite as a youngster. I’ve been so impressed with how they’ve taken the publishing to a new level in recent years with diverse stories like the Archie Horror line and the New Riverdale relaunch. And like so many others, I’m glued to my TV watching Riverdale now,” said Nick Barrucci. “I just knew we had to do this crossover for the fans!”Red Sonja and Vampirella Meet Betty and Veronica #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ March 2019 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in May 2019. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!
