Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Vol. 2 (DC – Various)
It’s another incredible collection of classic tales of the Corps from the pages of GREEN LANTERN #168, 169, 171-173, 177, 179-183, 185, 187-190 and TALES OF THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS ANNUAL #1, and featuring the work of Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons and many others!
I just came across this volume this last weekend. Man, did this bring me back to my childhood… yes the early 80’s, let the elder geek jokes commence. Seeing the artwork of Dave Gibbons was like connecting up with your favorite elementary teacher; nothing but good memories. But seeing things through older eyes does give it a different perspective, these are far and away much more sci-fi stories than they are super-hero stories.
These tales are very nostalgic; they are stand-alone, very melodramatic but absolutely family-friendly. If I can gauge impressions off of my daughters, these Superfriends-era tales are probably less-than-impressive for a younger post-Sinestro-Corps-War generation of readers. But you know what, these were written for 13 year olds in the 80’s not the… what are we calling this, the 10’s? In any case, they are a blast to read!
Bottom Line: Great fun, but at a $19.99 price tag for a soft cover, it’s a tad pricey!
