Dingo #3 (0f 4) (Boom! – Nelson / Biagini)
On the brink of a watery grave, Dingo must gather his strength, his wits and his daring to recover the box from his murderous ex-wife! With his family’s legacy at stake, Dingo discovers help from the most unlikely, most terrifying source… A supernatural crime story in the vein of 100 BULLETS — from the writer of the hit series’ HEXED and FALLS OF CTHULHU.
There really is no doubt about it, Dingo is a pleasure to read. In a landscape of Wizard-pushed books, it’s an independent under-the-radar pleasure that no one has really has heard of yet and isn’t getting a lot of press, but still one of the most enjoyable books I have read in the last month. Michael Alan Nelson constructs this supernatural noir-ish tale that keeps you guessing at what could happen next.
This issue’s opening, “So, my ex-wife steals a family heirloom then has me beaten nearly to death before being tossed into a watery grave. Yet, for some reason, I wasn’t sinking into the fatal embrace of the brackish river water… part of me was a little disappointed in that.” If you aren’t hooked, then go back to your Red Hulk comics.
Dingo and his new killer dog companion Cerebus finally end up in a face to face showdown with Darby, his demonic (literally) ex-wife. Major secrets are revealed here ; we find out what her forsaken dowry was, who or what can give her the dowry back, what is in the box that has been at the heart of Dingo’s quest and finally what is up with the monster dog. Between the extraordinary writing and the perfectly fitting artistic style, this is a fantastic book and will be a must-have trade.
