Nola #3 (of 4) (Boom! – Gorak / Cothran / Couceiro)
Revenge is a woman! As the murky flood waters of post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans recede, Nola continues her vengeance-filled killing spree. More questions, more answers, more blood in the streets! From Chris Gorak (Right at Your Door) and scripted by Heroes graphic novel writer Pierluigi Cothran!
If you have been following this book, this is a pretty big issue! Number three fills in some of the gaps of Nola’s story and finally gives her a direction and a focal point for her fury.
Nola, as a story, is masterfully woven together as a tale of personal regret over decisions made, consequences from family secrets revealed and retribution for wrongs done. It’s a woman’s journey whose personal / emotional life and physical environment turns a complete 180 degrees and goes from safe and secure to dangerous and unraveled in a few mere hours
What psychologically happens when people you love die from a natural disaster, your lover turns on you, incredible secrets surface about your deceased father’s history… oh yea and you are pronounced dead so you no longer can access your life. No doubt about it, this is a first class emotional thriller with a good deal of action as a bonus. It would be enough for the writers are to be to construct a good story, but where they go a step above is that they are able to encode this tale with such a low key narration that the reader often feels like they are with the characters in the numbing shock of the post-Katrina environment. The art and construction of the pages does a good job of framing and containing the over-the-top tension of this book. Watch for issue #3 hitting the comic shops this Weds!
