Issues #1 and 2 are out with #3 coming next week. Here’s the official DC blurb – “The future is now in this all-new monthly series! Brainiac 2 is a hunted man. His cosmic police force safeguarded over 80 worlds until a mysterious adversary suddenly seized control. Now Vril Dox must recruit a new team to win back his command and free countless billions. But this time, he’s basing his new group on the greatest heroes and villains of the 31st Century!”
Andy Clarke (Batgirl) brings his detailed pencils to this series. For my money Clarke is one of the best new artists working in DC, if they had a “Young Guns” list, Andy Clarke is at the top. His art alone should make you consider this book. But a lack of story background might keep you away.
Tony Bedard (Countdown, CrossGen, Exiles) brings his experience to this off-center story that combines a Booster Gold (in this case positive) time -manipulating feel to a “team of destiny” book. The story is solid and intriguing. But I believe the book’s biggest strength to be it’s biggest weakness. R.E.B.E.L.S. is steeped rich in Legion / L.E.G.I.O.N. history, so for the Legionnaire, this series is a dream come true. But alack, for those fanboys and girls who maybe aren’t that involved, it feels like the third part of a trilogy that you haven’t seen the first two movies… you know there’s something there, but you just can’t connect.
Is R.E.B.E.L.S. quality? a resounding YES!
Will you like it? IDK, you a Legion fan?
