Fantastic Four: Dark Reign #2 (of 5) (Marvel – Hickman / Chen / Ruggiero / Rauch)
The fallout of Reed’s machine results in Sue, Ben and Johnny finding themselves in the middle of a super hero Hyborian-age civil war, while Reed searches for answers to questions that can only be found in alternate timelines. Back on Earth, it’s Val and Franklin versus the agents of H.A.M.M.E.R.!
From a 25 year plus Fantastic Four fan, in a word, AMAZING!!!!
The story is compelling and Jonathon Hickman owns the characters. Reed is in search of the big answers dealing with the aftermath of Civil War / Secret Invasion and the possible undoing of Dark Reign. it’s almost unbelievable what he finds, meanwhile the rest of the team is cleaning up his mess.
There is nothing here that isn’t 100% believable from Marvel’s first family. The art team also does an incredible job in this limited series.
What Marvel proves here is that they have a secondary FF creative team ready in the wings if needed…
Grade: Solid A for long-term FF fans and for someone just picking up this book because of the Dark Reign tie-in.
