Green Lantern Corps #34 ( DC / Tomasi / Gleason / Buchman )
“The prelude to “Blackest Night” continues as the “War of Light” heats up. Mongul commands Daxam and their Superman-like citizens plus the entire Sinestro Corps. Can Arisia and a small resistance of Daxamites defeat the fear-bearing Corps with Sodam Yat out of the picture?”
Don’t be fooled by the description! The Daxamites are nothing close to Superman-like. Under a yellow sun, Daxamites are very much like a Kryptonian, but Daxam isn’t under a yellow sun. Meaning that all the people of Daxam are just regular Joes. Meaning that when Mongul or Arkillo land on them, they go ker-splat!
Overall the fight, in my opinion, was pretty lame. Honestly, who would you put your money on? The long standing DC villain, or the character who was created for last years Green Lantern event? Yea, go for the mainstay.
What was good about this issue is entire interaction between Sodam/Ion and his mother and the scene at the science cells. You can see where issues from even a year ago are playing into the current goings on in the Green Lantern books. Not to mention a rivitng look into Sodam’s personality issues.
The players in the War of Light are coming to the forefront and finding themselves behind enemy lines. Plus, many of the actions of the various Corps are being manipulated by the agent of the Blackest Night, and no one is the wiser.
