Avengers: The Initiative #20 (Marvel – Slott / Gage / Kurth / Brooks)
The Invasion is over and the Initiative has been rocked to its core. Now that the truth is out, that the program was conceived as part of a Skrull plot, can it survive? Who will leave? Who will stay? And who will lead them? Also: Learn what’s become of the REAL Hank Pym! And when Taskmaster discovers Mutant Zero’s true identity, she gets fightin’ mad! For fans of the Marvel Universe, this issue is one of the most important comics of the year as key members of the Initiative graduate and/or move on to four major Marvel titles!
Hate to say it, but the Marvel hype-machine was right on this one… It Rocked! Avengers fans, you want to get this issue!
There is some very interesting content here… tons of stuff going on. We open up on the first mandatory support meeting of the Post-Skrull War Syndrome, for those who got abducted, led by Doc Samson… the captive audience has mixed emotions about having to be there. We catch up with Tigra, who is pregnant with a Skrull baby (that suave Skrull Hank Pym). The noose gets a little closer for Hardball as the Shadow Initiative makes their plans to bring the traitor in. Mutant Zero is revealed to be a returned c-level Villain. 3D-Man and Ryder put their teammates to rest and go on the hunt for Skrulls. All this is interesting and could probably hold the issue all by themselves, but the chunk of the book is dedicated to the Real Hank Pym making right with the memory of Janet. Beautifully written and a treat for any long term Avengers fan!
I know sounds very Soap Opera… but still Phenomenal!
The Initiative has been one of Marvel’s only books that has been solid throughout the entire last year!
