Green Lantern # 35 (DC – Johns / Reis / Albert )
“The conclusion to “Secret Origin”! The prelude to the Blackest Night begins as the climax of the story of Hal Jordan’s first adventure comes to a close! Hal and Sinestro are confronted by the Guardians over their greatest fears. Plus, Sinestro uncovers a new prophecy all his own as the stage is set for next month’s “Rage of the Red Lanterns!”
We always knew that Hal Jordan was a cocky mavrick. This issue not only showcases that, it smacks you silly with it. It would seem that Hal was the first GL to openly question the Guardians, and they did not like it! Give the disaster with the Manhunters (the whole killing of every living thing in sector 666), the Guardians decided to safeguard themselves from their own creations..that’s why every building on Oa is yellow. Hal points that out, much to the anger of the Guardians and the disbelief of Sinestro, that the Guardians are afraid of their own GL Corps. Being accused of feeling fear did not go over well for the Guardians.
As if that weren’t enough Sinestro lets the cat out of the bag that he was sent to Earth by a Guardian named Ganthet. Remember that at this point in GL history, the Guardians of Oa were of one mind, not individuals. So the idea that one would take a name was so against their beliefs that they demanded to know who would do such of thing.
In the end, Hal and Sinestro are let off the hook. But, Atrocitus leaves Sinestro with a vision of terror for Sinestro’s homeworld and vow that the Green Lanterns will feel his rage.
