Justice Society of America #14 (DC – Johns / Ross / Eaglesham / Jose)
“Thy Kingdom Come” continues as the mystery of the “Heartbreak Slayer” explodes while the Justice Society discovers a true “New” God stalking them. Meanwhile, devastating images of the future continue to plague the Man of Steel.
It took a few months of meandering, but the JSA book has stepped up it’s game again. It’s an issue like this that reminds me why I started getting it in the first place. And it might be a first, but we get a nice splash page that has the whole new extended JSA all sitting around their table. Just as a side note to DC, you could sell that as a poster easy.
The whole Gog storyline is brought to a head here as Kingdom Come Superman puts his foot down as far as what might happen if he doesn’t do something about Gog now, meanwhile beating our heroes to the punch, literally, Gog decides to bring the fight to the JSA. Great action and interaction between the characters. Geoff Johns proves you can still have great writing, good relationships and engaging dialogue with a huge cast. The issue comes to close with Gog having Supes in one hand Amazing Man in the other (both unconscious – the only thing about the issue that smelled fishy) with a very dramatic Green Lantern / Obsidian moment.
For the first time in months, I eagerly await the next issue of JSA.
