Army of Darkness / Xena: Why Not? #1

Army of Darkness / Xena: Why Not? #1 (of 4) (Dynamite – Layman / Montenegro / Zona I / Bowland)

The cross-over no one asked for — or expected — is finally here! Too big for the movie of television screen, Dynamite presents the ultimate “Why Not? tale as Ash and Army of Darkness meets Xena, the Warrior Princess in the first issue of this 4-part mini series event!  Written by master … uh, scribe, John Layman and illustrated by Miguel Montenegro, the first issue of our most unnecessary adventure finds Ashley J. Williams transported to the world of Xena and Gabrielle and most importantly Autolycus, who of course, bears more than a passing resemblance to our main man Ash. Throw in the Necornomicon and an evil little ash taking charge of a group of fairies (the winged kind) and hey, you’ve got yourselves a story! Featuring two covers, one by UDON studios and the other by Fabiano Neves!

Dynamite comes through again with another fun Ash story that will make fans happy, well at least AOD fans.  This first issue had much more Ash background than Xena.  Lifted right from the movie, we have the one escaped mini-Ash, or as he is called here Ash-It, and his mini-nomicon (Brilliant!) as he travels into the world of Xena.  If you are looking for that serious “make-me-ponder” book…. well, then keep on walking.  But if you what you are in the mood for is a fun romp which includes having several Bruce Campbell characters meeting each other and being awe-struck with how handsome each other are… then you want to pick this up.  I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest Xena fan in the world and I had major doubts about this cross-over… you know, wondering if Dynamite had gone the way of the big boys and just seeing how much money they can get, but this is a great book and should be a fantastic trade!  Hopefully with Why Not being successful, could an Army of Darkness / Brisco County Jr. cross-over be too far behind? 😉
