Midknight #2 (Red 5 Comics – Hodges / Hodges / Ens / Bukshot) – Overnight, the people of Philadelphia have torn their city apart. But the carnage doesn’t end with the break of day, and comes crashing in on little Rowan’s trip to the zoo. Who is behind the madness, and what do they know about Midknight and Knightingale? Fighting Crime… After the kid’s bedtime! If that’s not a cool tag-line, I don’t know what is. Tom Hodges (of Star Wars fame) does a great job of translating his brilliant, unique art style into superhero comics. His hard crisp lined art provides support to both the characters and the overall story flow. I always enjoy checking out the angles and shapes that Mr. Hodges uses to lay out the visual end of a story. One of the best details of this book about a husband and wife crime fighting team is that it is written by the husband / wife team of Tom and Terry Hodges. This gives perspective as to why the dialogue and relationship between MidKnight and Knightingale is so fresh and realistic. Midknight is the perfect book for the whole family… adventure, heroics, drama, fun and still clearly within the realm of being family-friendly without being kid-centric (think Teen Titans Go!). If you are a dark story “Watchmen” type, this might be a bit light for your taste, but if you have pre-teens or even teens who have the comic bug… you want to put MidKnight at the top of your list.
