Over the years, ThePullbox crew have met literally hundreds of great personalities from the geek world (comic books, movies, reality shows… pop culture in general). While the vast majority of these folk meet and greet with enthusiasm, on occasion you meet people who forgot how and why it is that they became famous… it’s because of the fans! And when you have a geek celebrity that disrespects their fans… they get to join The Dork List!
You only get to join The Dork List if one of ThePullbox crew personally witnesses you being crappy to your fans. No Hearsay – all personally witnessed!
Lou Ferrigno – He was the first on our list, and it would seem everyone on the circuit has a Lou story. Greg said it best here.
Rob Liefeld – Besides not growing as a creator for over a decade, it seems like Rob just doesn’t care about his fans. One year at Wizard World, I decided for the first time (and the last) to get some my old X-books signed. Rob was holding a 2 hour signing that morning, that he was an hour late for. The first thing he did, was not apologize to his fans (some of which who had been there for over 2 hours waiting), but was to announce that he would still be leaving in an hour and that he would have sketches for the first 10 people in line. Never mind that #11 was a young lady with a severe physical disability that her whole purpose in coming to the show was to get a personal sketch from Rob. I watched and listened as this was explained to Rob by his own people (his manager? his handler?) and he didn’t care, he said it wasn’t his problem. I was far enough back in line that giving the fan my spot was moot, but thankfully there was a gentleman who was #8 I believe, who stepped out of line so that she could get her sketch. Actually there were quite a few of us who stepped out of line after that.
Alex Maleev – Won the dork award for WWC ‘08, Last night I was getting some books signed by the very talented Michael Avon Oeming, and some guy who obviously knew Michael kept being rude to us and actually told us (the fans) to go away so he he could talk to his friend. Well, everyone gets a dork moment, so I let it go. Well, today I find out he was Alex Maleev, a pretty talented artist who worked on Civil War: The Confession and Daredevil. I actually had 2 books for him to sign (ONLY TWO BOOKS!) and he is at his artist alley table by himself. He is doing some work with no one around him. I walk up to the table, let him know I like his work and ask him if he could sign my books. Without looking up he says “ummmmm… actually I have a Marvel signing tomorrow, why don’t you bring those books then” and goes back to his work without a so much of a pause. Two books… two stinking books!?! are you kidding me Alex? Well, welcome to the dork list!
