Atomic Robo: The Ghost of Station X – Volume 6 #3 (Red 5 -Clevinger / Wegener / Pattison / Powell)
Why aren’t you reading this book? Look, I’ll break it down for you. We’ve got a robot who’s also a scientist. He fights monsters, sometimes Nazis, a mobile pyramid once, the planet Mars kinda, and also Stephen Hawking (though to be honest that was more of a metaphorical battle). His arch enemies include a brain in a jar, a time traveling dinosaur who isn’t, and the spirit of Thomas Edison. Yeah, okay, this is the third issue in the sixth series, but it’s still a great jumping on point. Check it: First issue Robo tried to rescue some astronauts. Second issue it all went horribly wrong. This issue Robo tracks down the true culprits! Read It!
After six volumes, this creative team has yet to even come close to let their readers down.
Perhaps it’s because it isn’t a continuous monthly and inbetween volumes the team has breathing room to reorganize, maybe the reason is that the publishing company respects the rights of the creative team and let’s them do their magic without interfering, possibly it’s the product of not switching out a a creative team every volume… and it just might be an amalgamation of all of these things.
Atomic Robo has had top notch writing and art since day one, has been a high standard for pulp action and it has not deviated.
This series finds a mysterious nemesis hunting and playing Robo and his team like a deck of cards! Can Robo figure out who this before he is tricked into another “rescue operation” that is doing nothing more than putting himself in extreme danger? All this and the tracking down of a missing research facility (yup – the whole building!).
Yes, I know most of my reviews of Atomic Robo echo each other, but that’s because it has consistently been an incredible book – the big companies need pay attention!
The Bottom Line: This issue, this volume, and this series is one of the best things in the comic shop!
Issue Grade: A+
