The Dream Eater Saga: Neverland One-Shot (Zenescope – Gregory / DeShong / Embury)
Pan finds himself trapped on Earth retaining only a fraction of the power he once possessed. But when Pan learns of the Dream Eater’s arrival on Earth he formulates a plan to reclaim his throne and regain the power he once had. Part five of the event that will change the Grimm Fairy Tales Universe forever is here.
One of the things I have really enjoyed about this cross over event from Zenescope, is that each issue is not just more of the same. Unlike a few other publishers out there, each issue in this event both focuses in on the characters involved and moves the overall plotline ahead.
We open here with Pan being trapped on Earth after being ousted and perhaps dealing with a few anger issues. This issue gives the set-up for how Pan will play his mart (and from what I can tell a major part) in the war against the Dream Eater.
I loved the Neverland series and I am really enjoying the Dream Eater Saga books – so for me, this was a read I was looking forward to. And Bonus! – I was just as excited after reading as I was before hand.
This issue helps set the stage for the next act of the Dream Eater Saga – how he can be stopped?
The entire issue is a straight Pan narrative, so without a secondary track to “break it up”, perhaps it read a little quicker than perhaps it actually was. But, it still reads like the kick-ass action thriller that I and other Zene-fans have come to expect out of Raven Gregory.
The art team does a fairly good job of framing the tale, the visuals here are a little bit more exaggerated in that “cartoony” way than we have seen in the Zenescope line – still done very well but just a different taste than what I have seen out of Zene-books.
The Bottom Line: Good read and I can’t wait for part 6!
Issue Grade: A-
