The Goon #34 (Dark Horse – Powell)
The Goon’s been away for a while, and he’s horrified by what’s been passing for horror in his absence! When a bunch of gothy vampires summon some of the new generation for revenge on the Goon, they discover just how little tolerance he has for sparkliness. The Goon returns to its bimonthly schedule, and nothing beloved by ten-year-old girls is safe!
This issue doesn’t mark the return of the Goon after about a year and a half hiatus, but rather marks the celebration that fans are having all over the world seeing the Goon back in action. This issue is a perfect spot for any reader to pick up and start going with everyone’s fav cranky strong-armed galoot. This sort of re-intro issue beats the tar our of any recent re-boot or #.1 issue I have read.
Goon #34 has two stories – First, The Goon takes on a gang of baseball bat wielding, awesome abs-having vampires. I truly hope Stephenie Meyer has a sense of humor, because even my teenage daughters would find this tale funny. The Goon has dealt with the darkest of the hell born and now he get’s to deal with vats of glitter. Fun for fans of all vampires.
The second yarn deals with an “evil orphan” archetype. The orphans at McGregor home for wayward youth have a new addition and she doesn’t play well with others. The persistent youths need help, who do they seek? Too bad for the Goon he’s just trying to relax, kick back a few and enjoy the ball game. Hilarious and edgy! Pity the poor soul who gets between a drunk Goon and his promised spaghetti dinner!
The Bottom Line: Couldn’t have been better! A fan could not have been disappointed with this issue!
