Usagi Yojimbo #138 (Dark Horse – Sakai)
The Red Scorpion gang has terrorized the countryside for months, and its members have been the culprits behind many of Usagi’s recent adventures. In this issue, Usagi finally faces the Red Scorpion himself! But defeating both the Scorpion and the mercenaries at his side may be too much even for the rabbit ronin. The heart-pounding conclusion to the story arc “Those Who Tread on the Scorpion’s Tail”! Usagi has his final showdown with the Red Scorpion!
I haven’t read this series in years… you know how you have a great friend that you haven’t see in a very long time, then you meet up and immediately fall right back into step and catch up as if you have talked every day… yea, reading Usagi is a lot like that!
For older (*ahem* more mature) readers like me, Usagi Yojimbo is a welcomed old friend who will bring action, wisdom and honor to your pull list. For newer readers, you want to check this out – please don’t let the fact that the main character is a rabbit or that the B&W art seems like it could fit in on a Saturday morning line-up – Usagi reads much more like the Dark Knight than “heroes in a half-shell”.
This came out last week, hopefully you can still find a copy!
The Bottom Line: Not liking Usagi Yojimbo is like saying you don’t like Indiana Jones – if this is you, stick to the non-fiction.
Issue Grade: B+
