Apama: The Undiscovered Animal #2 (Ted Sikora Films – Sikora / Gallego / Miller)
Apama’s first super-villain! Art by the amazing Benito Gallego (Who also just got his first assignment for DC Comics illustrating a 70s retro style tale of THE FLASH!) An Apama pinup by comic legend Ron Frenz and inked by comic legend Sal Buscema! and more!
In a world where comic companies are trying to outclass and out-do each other to get the comic fans ever decreasing book budgets (relaunches afters big event after random tie-in after alternate covers and umpteenth reprints… yea, you all know who I am talking about) it is refreshing to come across Ted Sikora and his team as they continue to create a gritty yet creative world around the Hero Tomorrow protagonist Apama and turn out a quality book… and then put it online for free! HERE.
What the creative team has done with Apama is synthesized a wonderfully fresh work within what is a comfortable infrastructure for comic fans. Gallego’s art work is nothing short of iconic and is an excellent visual framework for Sikora’s story and plot devices – which are both comfortably melodramatic and charmingly fun.
A down and out landscaper with a life full of bad decision and hurt has an accident and falls victim to a secret experiment giving him new-found powers which he will you use to get revenge on everyone who has ever wronged him… and Apama’s first villain is born! And we get a more insight into Apama’s powers and his full capabilities are. This is cheesy but adventuresome and enjoyable all the same.
And did I mention it’s free!?! How can you go wrong? Check it out!
