Abyss: Family Issue #3 ( Red 5 – Rubio / Ruiz / Henderson / Peteri )

“The acclaimed super-comedy continues as the origin of the world’s greatest super-villain, Abyss, is revealed! But beware of aliens bearing gifts. As Eric Hoffman discovers, whatever makes you stronger can still kill you.”

Kevin Rubio is a geek’s dream writer for this generation. He dips into our collective consciousness, pulls out what we like, mixes in his own awesome story, and brings in an awesome art team to put it in pictures. The creative team knows what fans want in a book of this caliber and deliver. But enough gushing…what about Abyss?

This issue mostly focuses on history, or more precises the history of the Abyss universe.  How did we get our advanced tech? Where do superheroes come from? Who really had the idea for Scooby-Doo?  Questions that every comic should cover at some point.  Our hero, Eric Hoffman, is making his way in the world today with everything he’s got, but somethings just never go to plan.

As Eric continues down the rabbit hole of discovery that was his evil father’s life, more questions are found than answers. Unfortunately, he’s not the only one looking for those answers. Bad guys have a way of popping up at the most inconvenient times, don’t they?

I’ve enjoyed all the issues of Abyss immensely, and if you’re looking for something that brings back the fun you had with comics as a kid, you should not picking up Abyss Vol 1 in trade paperback and Abyss:Family Issue #1-3 NOW!

Awesome stuff!
