The Redeemers (Lonely Robot Comics – Rampson / Brendel)

Who are The Redeemers? Are they just a rock band with a great special effects team or could it be that they actually ARE a group of super-powered young men who travel the country fighting evil? Cub music reporter Maddie McAllister is determined to find out the truth. And it turns out The Redeemers themselves may not know the whole story…

Rock ‘n’ Roll ‘n’ Redemption. The Redeemers are a band trying to save themselves by saving everyone else.

It seems like I’ve seen other concepts of a demon fighting rock band, but to be honest I can’t remember where or what they are.  That’s what makes The Redeemers so special.  They stick out amongst all the other demon fighting books out there.

Rampson and Brendel have tapped into something very basic and primal that can be hard to find in mainstream comics.  They found a great concept with solid characters, and most importantly…they made it fun!  DC and Marvel have some great books, but some times the drama is just so heavy that it’s hard to enjoy. Don’t get me wrong..I love a good heroic drama, but does everything have to be as heart wrenching as a crucifixion? The Redeemers take comics back to the same level of enjoyment I had as a young reader.

My biggest praise of the book has to be the characters.  When looked at individually, you can make the claim that they are just stereotyped characters. But when you put them together they make a trio that is completely original. They each have their own issues and back stories that may seem familiar, but the creative team have something up there sleeves that it’s going to throw us for a loop (I get that oogy feeling…ya’know?)

Check out the Lonely Robot Comics website, or check these guys out at a comic convention. You’ll thank me.
