Batman Beyond #3 (of 5) (DC – Beechen / Benjamin / Stanisci)
Batman and the Justice League thought they were prepared for anything, but they didn’t expect the all-new Matter Master! How can they defeat a desperate man with complete control over the laws of physics and nothing left to lose? And has Terry’s nightmare come true – could his family already be dead?
How can you not be a fan of Batman Beyond? Really?
The animated series was a beautiful and amazing “What If” (yes, I know – wrong company) and Adam Beechen’s printed take on it is a perfect extension of the animated series. A future version of the League, elderly Bruce Wayne playing a very different version of Oracle, tie-ins to the Batman Beyond: Hush Beyond storyline – this first story arc (issues #1-3) brought a great deal of geek joy to any real Batman fan!
Terry’s approach to both being a member of a team and how he approached his teammates is very different from Bruce’s – and that is what is going to keep this book fresh, even for a solid DC fan. This book is a great amalgamation of edge and adventure!
The Bottom Line: The writing and art are both very solid – this book ranks much higher than some of DC’s other monthlies!
Issue Grade: A-
