So Age of X is finally under way, with not one but TWO installments this month! Part one (X-men Legacy #245) starts off right where AGE OF X ALPHA left off. The last remaining mutants on earth charging into battle against militant humans eager to make them a greasy smear on the map.
Sam Guthrie (Cannonball) really shines as the team leader during this battle and is one of the many “X-men” that has taken a surprisingly new roll in this universe. Other characters such as Wolverine have taken more passive roles in this universe. Though he survived the events in Alpha Wolverine seems to have been stripped of his powers and now runs the Fortress X bar Rat Run”. The story seems mainly focused on the mutant know as Legacy (Rouge). Towards the end of part one Legacy comes into contact with a mutant who escaped from the “Brig” (the basement of Fortress X where mutants who are too dangerous are kept). During the last pages of part 1 Magneto is shown walking the halls of this place. Keen eyed X-fans will spot a number of psychics such as Emma Frost, The stepford Cukoos, and… Well I wont spoil it.

Part 2 (New Mutants #22) focuses on Legacy a lot more as she tries to uncover answers about the mutant she met in part 1. Her quest brings her deep inside the brigg. Here she comes to conflict with the brigs cybernetic warden Danger. An intense escape follows but now leaves legacy a wanted criminal as Magneto Orders her brought in. “By any means necessary”

The story is picking up speed but it still seems to be lacking in some areas. Hopefully part three will show off more of this world and how it came to be.
