Dracula: The Company of Monsters #7 (Boom! – Busiek / Gregory / Couceiro)
It’s bloodsuckers vs. bloodsucker, as Kurt Busiek brings an incredibly modern spin to the Dracula mythos. The enemy of my enemy is…my ally? With Dracula’s forces fully amassed, Evan and vampire hunter Marta must team-up to bring down the king of monsters before he brings our world under his dominion! The ongoing horror series from the mind of Kurt Busiek continues!
I have always been a sucker for a good vampire story (ha! horror pun!), the weaker part of my geek-identity will always give one the benefit of the doubt. I have sat through countless… nay endless, variations of a Stroker theme and trying to “update” the classic, and most of them very dry and not being any better than a “meh”. Boom!’s monthly Dracula: The Company of Monsters, backed by the writing team of Daryl Gregory and Kurt Busiek is not only is in the small percentage of “updated” stories that works, but it sets a high standard and truly amazes me!
What happens when The king of vampires goes corporate? Will the modern world be a tougher nut to crack – or are people less likely to see evil for what it is? or even care? This book is plot and characters first and horror second. The story shines, the art looks great and is more than supportive to plot.
The Bottom Line: Very Intriguing A
Also, if you haven’t picked up this series yet, Boom! has release the first trade of the series for only $12.99 – Awesome book! Great price!
