Atomic Robo Vol 5 #1 (Red 5 – Clevinger / Wegener / Pattison / Powell)

Chicago, 1930. Mobsters! Hijacked lab equipment! Mystery Men! Gunfights! Car chases! A mad scientist’s machines, machinations, and the conspiracy behind it all! Tesla too! And that’s just in the first issue – ATOMIC ROBO AND THE DEADLY ART OF SCIENCE!

Volume 5 is finally here!  I have to admit I was needing my Robo fix.  What we have in volume five is an origin story of sorts – not the origins of Atomic Robo as a creation – but the origins of Atomic Robo as an adventuring hero.  In the opening issue he meets Jack Tarot, Chicago’s leading masked gunfighter and mystery man pulp hero – who against his initial reactions, reluctantly take Atomic under his wing to mentor as a hero.

Jack Tarot is very cool and a great send up to all of the classic pulp heroes – but how does he see through his mask? I don’t see any eye holes but perhaps that is just creative license on the side of the artist. :)

speaking of creative – here we are in volume five of this series, and the whole creative team is back – which means the story and the art is exactly what the fans are expecting and wanting.  And it is still nothing short of printed awesomeness!  This is a fantastic series – a prefect blend of adventure, excitement and comedy.  In short, Atomic Robo is exactly the type of book that gets readers hooked on comics.

It comes out this Wednesday, this should be at the top of your pull list!
