Dracula: The Company of Monsters #3 (Boom! – Busiek / Gregory / Couceiro)

From the mind of Kurt Busiek, the all-new ongoing horror series continues! Revived, enchained and seemingly tamed, the Barrington Corporation believes they have Dracula under their control. Which is just what Dracula wants them to think. As Dracula gets his pawns into place, Evan Barrington races to discover his true plan before it’s too late! It’s bloodsuckers vs. bloodsucker, as Busiek brings an incredibly modern spin to the Dracula mythos!

Continuing the horror-themed Halloween week of reviews here at The Pullbox, we have Boom!’s modern vampire tale told by icon Kurt Busiek and Daryl Gregory.

The heart of this book is at the comparison of the ancient vampire lord and Prince who made a deal with the devil and a vicious modern industrial leader.  Both craved power. Both and more than willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.  But only one has honor, can you guess which one?  The title of this series gains more meaning as the contrast between Dracula and Conrad becomes sharper.  Issue #3 also introduces a vampire-hunting family from the Carpathian mountains – no doubt they will play into our protagonists’ choice of who to follow – Dracula (who can complete his training in the mystical arts) or his uncle Conrad (who can offer him power and wealth)?

The writing here is fantastic and there is a great flow between the story and the art / layout.  Kudos to the creative team here, they are earning their keep at Boom!

Bottom Line: Loved it and if you even have a little bit of vampire-fan in you, you will too!

Issue Grade:A Out right now!
