The 501st Legion is the biggest costumed fanclub in the world. These hyperactive guys and gals colored the enitre Motor City con in a really great way. The way they interacted with everyone, fans and artists alike, really helped make it a fantastic weekend. They were fully in character as much as they were in costume. The 501st has a three pronged mission: To Celebrate the Star Wars Mythos, to Promote the organization / fandom and to contribute back to charities (both national and local). Their site has information at length about the organization, how you join, their members, current movements and what charities are being benefitted. They never charge to do a show, but they do ask for donation for the charity at hand… and at Motor City, donations went to support the Make A Wish Foundation. These wonderful fan-folks have taken their hobby / obsession and turned into a force of good in the galaxy… and are they have an enthrallingly good time while doing it.
